NC Women in Journalism
Created in January 2024 by journalist Lexi Solomon, the NC Women in Journalism Group is a space for female and nonbinary media professionals to socialize, network and grow together.
With the generous partnership of the NC Local News Workshop, we hosted a meetup in Durham in August 2024, allowing more than 30 journalists to connect. In January 2025, we launched monthly virtual gatherings, creating a space for members to discuss topics like self-care and journalism, digital safety, professional opportunities as well as opportunities for peer knowledge sharing about reporting skills, regional diversity and career pathways. Our second in-person event is scheduled for March 8, 2025—International Women’s Day at the UNC-Hussman School of Journalism. Save the date and stay tuned for details!
We also have a Slack channel where members can connect on a daily basis, asking questions, sharing resources and discussing issues that come up in the course of working in local news.
