The WNC Research & Community Listening Project is a research program of the NC Local News Workshop (the WORKSHOP), which is affiliated with the School of Communications at Elon University.
This research project includes an online survey for residents of Western North Carolina (WNC), aimed at learning how people access and use the news and information they need in daily life. This WNC NEWS & INFORMATION SURVEY (SURVEY) may be accessed directly via a web browser or may be accessed via SMS opt-in.

WNC residents who wish to obtain a link by text to the WNC LOCAL NEWS SURVEY may request this by texting the word SURVEY to 855-541-2366. We may also follow up by text with participants in online or in-person focus groups who request to receive follow-up information from us about this research project. We do not purchase or otherwise obtain cell phone numbers from any third party.
If you opt in to receive a link to the SURVEY or other communications from us by text, you may receive occasional follow-up messages from us at an average of three messages per month. You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to 855-541-2366. Standard messaging rates may apply.

The WORKSHOP is the sole owner of the information collected on this site and through our text communications. We will not sell or rent this information to anyone.
